Six municipal hospitals will certainly become centres for post-hospital treatment, according to a supplement to the Concept for Hospital Restructuring, published on the website of the Health Ministry. The medical establishments in Dryanovo, Elena, General Toshevo, Sredets, Lyubimets, and Radomir have been approved for restructuring by the Ministry. However, the number of hospitals suitable for restructuring has to be additionally specified after the complete list of hospitals willing to do so is received.
On Thursday, August 8, the Health Ministry gave a week to municipal hospitals to decide whether they want to be restructured or not. The Concept stipulates the criteria for the selection of hospitals to become establishments for post-hospital medical treatment: the need of beds for post-hospital and prolonged medical treatment and signed contracts for at least five DRGs (diagnosis related groups) with the National Healthcare Insurance Fund (NHIF) in the past two years. They must have also declared their willingness to be restructured. Hospitals, which will become establishments for post-hospital treatment will receive financing for repairs and basic equipment. The type of equipment will depend on the kind of the most common diseases and these needing treatment for a longer period. Big municipal hospitals servicing more than 40,000 people and with more than 80 beds, at least 75% of which are used, will receive financing from EU funds for modern equipment, repairs and reconstruction. According to the Health Ministry, nine hospitals have a potential to qualify for that.
