Italian companies interested in the air base in Dobrich

Many foreign companies have expressed interest in the air base in Dobrich, which was closed down 10 years ago. They are looking to turn the former military airport into a cargo airport and build entertainment parks for children, BLITZ agency reported, referring to the Mayor of Dobrich, Detelina Nikolova.

Some years ago, interest in the air base was announced by a German company and an Italian-German consortium. They wanted to build a cargo airport to service the municipalities of Dobrich and Constanta. Siberian Airlines intended to build a terminal for transportation of foods, cargo, and tourists. Later on, a Chinse investor proposed setting up the biggest wholesale market for Chinese goods in Europe.

The investment cannot be realized for the time being since the airport is still owned by the Ministry of Defence. The Dobrich Municipality suggests that the ministry consigns it to the local authorities.
