Some 110,000 people were permanently employed in the tourism sector last year, or 15,000 less than in 2008. The number of seasonally employed staff in the sector decreased by about 30,000 to some 180,000. During a round table on human resources in tourism held yesterday, Tsvetan Tonchev, Chairman of the Bulgarian Tourist Chamber, said that the most significant decrease in the number of personnel was registered in the winter resorts of Pamporovo and Bansko, and in nearby regions.

The average monthly wage in the sector is currently BGN 400, and the jobs most in demand are in the administration and in the management of various units.

Tonchev also reminded of the visa problem for Russian tourists who have to pay €60 for an entry visa to Bulgaria. The respective price in Turkey is €10, while Cyprus covers the cost. The forecasts for the summer season are that proceeds in the branch will decrease by some 10% after imposing the ban on smoking in public places.

Meanwhile, four municipalities signed an agreement for the development of tourism in the Bourgas bay. It includes Pomorie, Bourgas, Nessebar and Sozopol, and representatives of the Italian association Naples Bay.
