Three of the Kremikovtsi iron and steel works plants may get a complex permit from the Ministry of Environment and continue to operate, Lyudmil Pavlov, Chairman of the Metallurgists Federation with the Podkrepa Labour Confederaion, told Klassa. According to him, the enterprises are: the steel production plant, Stan 1700, and the plant for continuous steel pouring. The syndicates held a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Environment and the Justice Ministry to discuss Kremikovtsi’s problems. The State’s experts promised to issue Kremikovsti a permit for compliance with environmental requirements, said Pavlov. He added that the company’s trustee in bankruptcy, Tsvetan Bankov, would demand from the Ministry of Environment and Water to issue a permit only for the three production plants. The procedure for the issuance of a complex permit was suspended by a decision of Environment Minister, Nona Karadjova, insiders said. Kremikovtsi has already drafted the necessary documents and the BGN 20,000 fee for the issuance of a new permit, syndicates explained.
The iron and steel works has been working without such a document for three years now due to non-fulfillment of environmental requirements. The most recent application for such a permit was filed in the beginning of 2008.
