A new plant for metallurgical inputs will be built near the town of Lom, the investor Rua Group told Klassa. The idea is to build new facilities for the production of pellets to the existing capacities. Pellets are used for the production of steel and cast iron and when the investment is made, Bulgaria will become an exporter of these goods to Europe, company sources commented. Rua Group currently has two enterprise in Lom – a factory for metal pipes and a metal factory, which have been operating since 2005. Metal balls for grinding ore and cement are produced in their workshops and the output is sold on the domestic market and exported to Greece, Albania, the Ukraine and other countries.
A major investor in the project is the Ukrainian businessman, Viktor Demenyuk, who was interested in buying the bankrupt Kremikovtsi iron and steel works from Pramod Mital. Demenyuk was holding the negotiations on behalf of the Ukrainian businessman, Konstantin Zhevago, and even visited Bulgaria to hold talks with the former tripartite coalition government for the purchase of Kremikovtsi. The company Vorskla Steel even delivered raw materials for the operation of Kremikovtsi and later on, was one of the major secured creditors of the enterprise. The new production capacities are expected to create a lot of jobs in the Lom region.
