The opening of the upgraded wastewater treatment plant and the expanded water supply and sewerage network in the town Kyustendil was attended yesterday by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov, Minister of Environment and Water, Nona Karadjova and Minister for EU Funds Management, Tomislav Donchev. The project for the water cycle of Kyustendil is financed under the ISPA programme and is worth €30 mln.
The facilities for wastewater treatment and for sludge treatment were reconstructed and modernised. An automatic system for control and data collection was implemented. The sand filters and the treatment plants for drinking water, together with the sewage network, were repaired and renovated.
“Bulgaria paid nearly €230 mln under the Water sector in the ISPA programme, half of this amount in the last 2 years,” said Donchev. The budget for the entire program is about €500 mln.
