Denmark remains the best place for doing business in 2010 as well, followed by Hong Kong and New Zealand. Bulgaria ranks 53rd among 128 economies, according to the fifth consecutive ranking of Forbes magazine. It is based on GDP per capita, public debt as a percentage of GDP, trade balance, trade freedom, innovation, technology, personal freedom, corruption, investor protection, tax burden etc. In Bulgaria, every citizen produces on average goods and services at the value of $12,500, while in the top-ranked Denmark the value of those is three times bigger - $36,000. This country relies on its technologically well-developed agriculture, pharmacy and investments in renewable energy sources. Denmark is not a member of the Euro-zone and its national currency - the Danish Krone is pegged to the euro. Denmark has topped the Forbes list for three consecutive years.
In Hong Kong, the produced GDP per capita is even higher - $42,800, while in New Zealand, with a population of 4.2 million, it is - $27,400.
The Top 5 also includes Canada (GDP per capita: $ 38,200) and Singapore (GDP per capita: $ 52,20). Ireland is ranked sixth with $41,000 per capita. Several other Scandinavian countries fall within the Top ten of Forbes. Sweden occupies the seventh place, where GDP per capita stands at $36,600, followed by Norway with $57,400. The USA remains ninth, while in last year's ranking it was at a second place.
In 2009, Bulgaria held the 55th position with a GDP per capita of $13,200. This year, although we climbed two positions we remain behind economies such as Botswana, where everyone produces goods and services worth $12,800. Bulgaria is followed by Oman with GDP per capita of $25,000.
